What Is HYROX and Why Are Filipinos Getting Hooked?

The World Series of Fitness Racing

HYROX bills itself as "the fitness competition for every body" — and the format backs it up. Every race worldwide is identical: run 1km, complete a functional workout station, then repeat that cycle 8 times. The 8 stations are SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls.

Because the format never changes, your time from a race in Singapore can be compared directly against someone who raced in London or New York. This creates a global leaderboard and a cumulative World Championship at the end of each season.

Why Filipinos Are Taking Notice

The Philippine fitness scene has exploded over the past decade — CrossFit boxes, functional fitness gyms, and running clubs are everywhere. HYROX sits right at the intersection of running and functional training, making it a natural next step for athletes who already train both modalities.

Filipino athletes like Mauro Lumba (PH Pro Men record holder, 1:10:56 in Osaka), Gabb Rosario (multiple PH HYROX records, 2nd place Mixed Doubles Bangkok), and Justin Hernandez (first Filipino male CrossFit Games athlete) are leading the charge. They travel to APAC races in Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and beyond.

No HYROX in Manila — Yet

There is no official HYROX race in the Philippines as of mid-2026. But with HYROX expanding rapidly across Southeast Asia — Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore all have confirmed races — a Manila debut is widely anticipated. The moment it is announced, this site will be the first to report it.

How to Start

  1. Find a gym with HYROX-specific equipment (sleds, SkiErg, rowers, wall balls)
  2. Build your base over 8-12 weeks mixing running and station training
  3. Pick a race — Singapore and Hong Kong are the most accessible for Filipino athletes
  4. Show up and finish — your first HYROX is about completing, not competing
